After suffering an "identity" crisis for many years, USSCA has come up with a new label for the numerous C-Cans on the market featuring 55 turn/30 gauge armatures--GROUP 11. "For many years Mura was the only producer of these units, so they were often referred to as "Challenger-type" motors, said USSCA President Rick Bennardo, "but , now that virtually all manufacturers produce a version of these popular motors, identification has become a problem." "Since they fall between Group 10 (16d) and Group 12 in performance, we felt identifying the 55/30 arms as Group 11 was a natural," emphasized Bennardo. From this point, all C-Can 55/30 motors will be referred to as Group 11, balanced or unbalanced. What about the 60/30 gauge arms often referred to as Super Wasp, Hornet etc? "We're working on that," laughed Bennardo, "perhaps Group 11-B??." Realistically, it may be better to phase out these 60/30 motors, however we realize that these motors are still popular for scale classes in certain regions of the country................
